Its mission is to improve the quality of life and a sense of belonging by ensuring the vitality of the Peter-McGill district. To do so, it organizes activities based on the concerns and interests of the individuals and families living in the district.
Housing and urban planning
Study and make a stand about questions of urban development, homelessness and construction in the district. The major files are currently the Franciscan lot and Cabot Square.
Youth Action Committee
Organizations serving 12-to-30 year-olds in the western downtown area meet on this Committee to ensure that the downtown resources for people in this demographic complement each other and to initiate actions that meet their needs and motivate them to get involved.
It is composed of four subcommittees:
Knowledge and intervention
Objective: increase the knowledge of people working in the mental health field and improve communication channels between community organizations and institutions.
Objective: increase the promotion and distribution of information on the existing resources and on the district’s services and activities.
Mobilization and awareness
Objective: promote closer relations between the organizations, the community and shop-keepers, and educate the community about the global community approach.
Objective: initiate a project for social and occupational integration/employability between employability organizations and shop-keepers to working with needy youth.
The Avenir d’Enfants working group
Strategic planning for the 0 to 5 year-olds of the Peter-McGill district. The working group is made of partners coming from different sectors, mobilized around the situation of children aged 5 and less living in poverty.
Ad hoc Committee 2013-2014 for the organization of the forum on homelessness
This committee is helping to organize the Homelessness Forum, which is scheduled for May 2014. The Forum will highlight the experiences of homeless people and promote innovative practices in the fight against homelessness. In addition, durable structures will be set up to ensure better interaction between citizens, organizations and homeless people.
