Food Security

Food Security means that all human beings have, at all times, physical and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and balanced life.

This situation creates unequal access to healthy and nutritious food in the Peter-McGill neighborhood. The Food Security Committee brings together 14 local organizations that aim to promote existing services and encourage the development of coordinated initiatives to meet the community’s needs.

Peter-McGill has a lower average annual individual income ($37,924) than the average in the Ville-Marie borough and the city as a whole. Many individuals have very low incomes — or none at all — including students, new immigrants, and transient populations, making them vulnerable when it comes to accessing food.
