An Important Update
More than 50 people gathered together for our first Neighbourhood Assembly on March 21st. The Peter-McGill community has been working together since 2013 to bring a community centre to life on the former Montreal Children’s Hospital site, but no consultation had been held since 2017. We were overdue for an update!
After an introduction from Ron Rayside on the current developments in the Peter-McGill neighbourhood, our My Peter-McGill project manager, Maryse Chapdelaine, gave an overview of the Children’s Square development, and finally Marie-Ève Auclair from the Ville-Marie borough, shared the latest information regarding teh future Peter-McGill Centre.
The participants were then invited to share their ideas and suggestions for the future Centre, which we know will include a community café, a drop-in daycare centre and several cultural spaces (concert hall, library, etc…)
The Peter-McGill Neighbourhood in Your Eyes
We could like to thank the Canadian Centre for Architechture for letting us host the event in the beautiful Maison Shaughnessy. Over the course of the evening, residents, students, elected officials and representatives of local organisations all mingled and chatted, not only to imagine the future Peter-McGill centre, but also to dream about the future Peter-McGill neighbourhood. As well as round table discussions, participants could share their ideas and desires for the neighbourhood on a giant neighbourhood map.
We are planning to organise other events like this one to discuss local issues and the future of our neighbourhood. Do you have subjects or themes in mind that you’d like to see discussed at a future Neighbourhood Assembly? Share them with us!
