There are many ways to volunteer with seniors!
Friendly phone calls
An open-minded, active-listener volunteer who can commit 2 hours per week for 4 month.
Our Friendly Calls program, sponsored by the @Bell Let’s Talk campaign, matches volunteers with older adults for 20-minute calls aimed to reduce the isolation, loneliness and depression experienced by seniors.
Our volunteers receive individual training for active listening, managing interpersonal relations, and recognizing red flags. The calls can be made remotely during daytime.
Friendly Errands and Accompaniment
A dedicated volunteer who can commit up to 2 hours per week (as needed) for 4 months. We are looking for volunteers to help our members who are unable to leave the house to do their shopping, collect their mail, etc. or require an accompaniment. This service can be one time request but also a regular request, so this act of service is an excellent opportunity to interact with a member to break the loneliness experienced by older adults and perhaps to develop a friendship. Times and days are flexible.
Technologial help
In search of a patient, open-minded volunteer with essential technology skills (emailing, uploading photos, installing zoom).
Looking for a volunteer to provide technical support to our members. Volunteers will offer support and guidance to teach members to use the Internet, computer, smartphone or tablet (Apple or PC depending on the member). The volunteer must be able to assess the level of technological competence and adapt their lessons accordingly. Technical support will be done remotely (in Zoom or telephone) for the duration of COVID.
Community liaison project
The volunteer would be responsible for identifying which organizations and resources are available for members who live in or on the outskirts of our service area. This document will be used by volunteers and coordinators to refer members to essential services outside of our reach. Work would be done remotely.
