The Peter-McGill Community Council would like to meet you. Our mission is to bring together the organisations, residents, businesses and institutions of our downtown district with the objective of improving quality of life in the neighbourhood. Our current committees are working towards the development of public space (social housing, schools, parks), increased access to healthy food and creating and maintaining services for families, youth, seniors and newcomers.
Primary responsibilities:
- Manage and create content for social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
- Update and maintain website content. Compile and send the monthly newsletter.
- Design and distribute communications tools such as flyers, business cards, posters, annual reports, PowerPoint presentations etc…
- Help plan and promote community events and activities.
- Maintain media relations, including the creation of press campaigns, contacting journalists, and giving interviews as needed.
- Develop communications and promotions partnerships with local organisations, businesses and institutions.
- Participate in communications strategy (e.g., communication plans and reports)
- Work with the team to encourage civic engagement, event participation and increased membership.
- Complete administrative tasks as needed (note taking, ordering office supplies etc…)
Qualifications:
- 1 to 2 years of experience in communications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
- Ability to react quickly to current events and manage several tasks at once
- Strong interest the community sector
- Highly organised, with a strong attention to detail
- Autonomy and flexibility
- Graphic design experience (Canva and/or Adobe Suite)
- A mastery of either English or French, both written and spoken. Excellent command of the other official language. A third language is considered an asset, particularly Mandarin, Arabic or Farsi.
- Experience using WordPress and basic HTML knowledge (asset)
- Familiarity with the Peter-McGill neighbourhood (asset)
Working conditions:
- 35 hours per week, one-year renewable contract
- Hourly wage between 18.43$ and 19.54$ based on the organisation’s salary scale
- Occasional availability on evenings and weekends
