The Ville-Marie borough has begun the process of choosing a name for the future Peter-McGill centre and calls for the community’s inspiration to find the name that will better reflect this new space of gathering, culture and leisure to come! To this end, the Peter-McGill Community Council was mandated to collect ideas from its members by August 25. Starting August 26, the Peter-McGill Community Council’s team and board members will study every proposal and select 5 of them to submit to the borough. We will take into account of the criterias explained here below and of the repetitions (one name proposed by several people) to select these 5 names.
Before submitting your proposal(s)
Please note that the name will have to meet the following criterias:
- Be linked to the nature of the project. See the brief description of the Centre here
- Comply with the rules set out by the Commission de la toponymie du Québec and the other requirements of the Ville de Montréal. You will find them here.
- Lastly, in conjunction with the city’s Toponym’Elles campaign, the administration has expressed the desire that if the centre is named after an individual, that person should ideally and preferentially be a woman. For more information, you can consult a reference database on the Ville de Montréal website. Local organizations, for example those that work with women, can also propose other names.
