Mission

Downtown Families brings together families and community stakeholders to collaborate in innovative ways to develop the best possible living environment for all children, youth and families in downtown Montreal by developping a family-centred approach to increase participation in activities and services and to reduce isolation.

Downtown Families was born in 2013 from the desire and commitment of community partners to better serve downtown families. Since then, we have been working together to provide essential services and family activities that did not previously exist in Peter-McGill, including:

Services

The services are organised and carried out by our coordinator and community liaison: SABINE PHILIPPIDÈS

Drop-in daycare (not available at the moment)

The drop-in center welcomes children aged 18 months to 5 years. Twice a week for 3 hours each time. The drop-in centre is currently open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and can accommodate a maximum of 6 children.
The service is free for families living in the Peter McGill neighbourhood, regardless of their citizenship or status.

The drop-in is located near Atwater and Sainte-Catherine W. in the premises of a community organization. We will send the address to registered families.

Parents are asked to bring a snack, a change of clothes and disposable diapers. You are welcome to bring a doggie for your little one, but there are plenty of toys at the drop-in too!

Stroller-break

Originally created because of COVID-19, as we understood that many parents preferred to reduce their social contact as much as possible, the stroller-break offers one hour per week of respite to parents.

Make an appointment with the Drop-in Coordinator who will walk with your child in a stroller for 60 minutes! The service is available to parents with children up to 2 years old.

Family bundles

The family bundles include diapers, healthy snacks and other essential items to ensure that children aged 0-5 years grow up healthy. These packages are distributed to Peter McGill residents and help parents and newcomers to the community provide for their children and families.

We have a limited amount of bundles to distribute, so they are distributed based on certain criteria – if you are interested in receiving a basket, please take a few minutes to fill out our form and we will contact you to inform you of your eligibility.
